Understanding Peacebuilding: A workshop for women peacebuilders

Thirty-one women representing the North, East, North-Central, North-Western, Southern, and Central provinces participated in a residential peacebuilding workshop on the 27th and 28th of February at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The workshop featured:

  • Nabeela Iqbal, Head of Operations and Founder of Sisterhood Initiative, who spoke about using digital spaces for peacebuilding;
  • Professor Maneesha Pasqual, Senior Lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the University of Colombo, who explained the concept of peacebuilding;
  • Indika Bulankulame, Head of Training and Capacity Building and Senior Research Professional at the Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA), who discussed the history of women-led peacebuilding initiatives in Sri Lanka; and
  • Shamini Chandran, Senior Lecturer in Political Science in the Department of Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Colombo, who outlined strategies and recommendations from women peacebuilders on how to work with young women peacebuilders.
